INTERNATIONAL TELEWORK ASSOCIATION
& COUNCIL (ITAC) AND GSA PRESENT FREE WEBINAR ON JUNE
19,
"TECHNOLOGY BARRIERS TO HOME-BASED TELEWORK"
WASHINGTON, June 6, 2002
- A free Web seminar entitled "Technology Barriers to
Home-Based Telework" will be presented by the International
Telework Association and Council (ITAC), in cooperation with
the General Services Administration (GSA) of the U.S. government,
on Wednesday, June 19 at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time.
ITAC is a non-profit organization dedicated to driving the
growth and success of work independent of location. The Webinar,
one in a series of Telework America Webinars, is based on
a report that consultants Booz-Allen & Hamilton recently
completed on the subject of telework in the federal government.
This virtual seminar will explore telework issues and challenges,
including:
- Impact of bandwidth of residential network services on
telework efficiency;
- Performance challenges faced when using client-server
applications in a home-based telework environment;
- Management issues involving the coordination of telework
managers/HR personnel and IT staff; and
- Security concerns regarding home-based teleworkers' network
access.
While the Booz-Allen & Hamilton report specifically analyzes
U.S. federal telework programs, many of the findings are applicable
to the private sector as well. Among other valuable lessons,
Webinar attendees will learn why technology is not currently
a serious barrier to telework growth, but how technology could
be such a barrier in the future without proper planning.
The Webinar material will be presented by Gil Gordon, President,Gil
Gordon Associates; Theresa Noll, from the GSA Office of Government
Wide Policy, Innovative Workplaces Division; and John McGady,
Senior Associate, Booz-Allen & Hamilton. At the end of
the Webinar, there will be a Q&A period where audience
members will be able to submit questions to the presenters.
The contents of this Webinar will be of interest to senior
management, human resources managers, IT managers and telework
managers in local, state, and federal agencies, and their
counterparts in companies or non-profit organizations that
are implementing or considering telework programs.
All that is needed to attend is a telephone and a computer
with Internet access (broadband is best). Advance registration
is required.
